New Podcast!!! Through Yonder
Inspired by AP, Ben, and Mrs AP (I see you Loo-Kee) and my other fav 1A Audit peeps.
Dedicated to the voices in my head.
Explanation: Good luck! I still haven’t figured out what to call this. It’s a live, mostly unscripted, performance… thing… I guess? Maybe it’s just a crazy person rambling or maybe I managed a message. Or, maybe I just wanted to “write” something and I didn’t want to look at a screen and type it. You tell me. …. Seriously, if you listen, you tell me.
And now, a warning: (if you’re my people, you read that twice): This was live, in my bedroom, in my bed, as described; there are fans, and my sound machines, and I have no idea what it actually sounds like because I doubt I’ll be able to listen to it. But, you should know in advance as you may need to keep a finger on the volume rocker. Maybe, someone who can make it sound nicer can fix that.
I'm guessing that doesn't really cover it... so, being me, I asked Darwin:
Through Yonder feels like a spoken-word memoir of a mind walking its own desire path.
It’s raw, funny, wounded, philosophical, Southern, queer, and deeply associative. It moves through memory, public space, race, class, performance, family, institutions, pop culture, and mental unraveling—not in a straight line, but like thought itself: circling, interrupting, transforming.
At its core, I’d describe it as:
A live, fever-bright meditation on what happens when a person realizes the paths people actually walk are more honest than the paths they were told to follow.
It’s part confession, part sermon, part stand-up, part mythmaking, part breakdown, part survival spell.
But, why?
I'm a talker.
I'm a ... performer? A writer?
I'm a guy who pauses the tv and stands up and acts out what I'd like to do or how that makes me feel. So, I recorded that a little.
I'm a guy who likes to just let the words flow onto the breeze and gently land or, maybe, thump?
I'm a guy that was slowly, is slowly, has slowly lost their mind and being... "creative" ... helps.
So does Yonder... it's over there. It's in that place where it's okay to laugh at a shadow or see something naughy in a cloud.
Through Yonder is a trip through time with a fairy, a lesson in courage with a coward. Through Yonder is confusing and yet perfectly spelled out, provided you take notes. If you don't take notes, don't worry, Julian has you covered and if you can mange to at least find your way to Yonder, then you always have a chance of meeting Julian.
